So if you’re planning on driving to Flagstaff the Arizona Snowbowl would be a good attraction to experience. The ski resort is located on the San Francisco Peaks with an elevation of 11,500 ft. at the top of the highest chair lift. There is an avid backcountry ski culture in Flagstaff that enjoys going to higher elevations and exploring the rest of the range. But don’t attempt this without knowledge, experience, and the proper gear. The average snowfall has been 260 inches. With this, Arizona Snowbowl has been permitted to make snow in hopes of providing a more consistent and enjoyable snow season. The manmade snow is created with reclaimed water. A course, snowmaking is controversial for Flagstaff locals, and Native Americans. The San Francisco Peaks are sacred to Native Americans.

Snowbowl is approximately 160 miles north of Phoenix. You’re also on the route to the Grand Canyon on your way up. To avoid chains, 4WD or the stress of winter driving conditions, always check the weather and road conditions before traveling to avoid being turned around by troopers. Throughout the year 4WD’s and chains are required to travel north. You also have travel options like the Alpine Express which is a luxury chartered express to relieve your worry. This luxury bus will take you and all your snow gear directly to Arizona Snowbowl. They have two pick-up locations, Tempe Market Place and Happy Valley Town Center.
