The Grand Canyon (Arizona)

The U.S. News & World Report travel chooses The Grand Canyon as their #2 " Best Fall Getaways". Many feel that GRAND is not the word to use when describing this 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide, massive natural wonder. History documents over the past 6 million years the Grand Canyon was formed and expanded with the help of the Colorado River. This spot is visited by people from all over the world to gaze at the red and orange glow of this beauty.

The best times to visit the Grand Canyon are March through May and September through November because the entire North Rim will be closed, as well as, other parts of the park due to preparing for the snowfall season. Expect crowds at the South Rim due to the Grand Canyon Village and the Bright Angel Trail which are some of the most popular areas tourist visits. If you're looking for a less crowded area visit the North Rim which is the spot for camping and intermediate to advanced hikers.

I have visited the Grand Canyon and my last visit was like the very first time all over again. You will see a lot of people with cameras, speaking languages from around the world. I visited in the spring and during the fall season which the temperatures do become cooler in the evening as the sun goes down. I would suggest to make it a weekend retreat so you can at least do some exploring throughout the park. You can water raft or kayak, camp, hike, horseback ride the trail, enjoy the Havasu fall for a little swimming or just take in the breathtaking scenery during the warmer temperatures. The Canyon also offers numerous hotel accommodations and dining for those just looking for a quiet getaway. My next trip there will definitely be in the summer to hike, camp and enjoy the beautiful falls within the park.

Definitely bring your tennis shoes, camera, and a jacket to take in all the grand wonders that the park has to offer!
